Studio Orobica operates in Tkaronto (Toronto), on the traditional territory of many nations including the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishnabeg, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee and the Wendat peoples. Studio Orobica also acknowledges that Tkaronto is covered by Treaty 13 signed with the Mississaugas of the Credit, and the Williams Treaties signed with multiple Mississaugas and Chippewa bands.
What actions are being taken?
I recognize that a land acknowledgment is not enough. On behalf of myself and Studio Orobica, donations have been made to Is Starts With Us, Rainbow Railroad, Sick Kids and the Black Legal Action Centre. My small business will continue to financially support organizations that uplift BIPOC & LGBTQ+ communities whenever possible. I acknowledge that I have more work to do to decolonize and foster reconciliation.
My next goal is showing more diversity on my website. Due to COVID-19, most of my products have been modelled on myself, but this is soon to change!
