Many of the items made at Studio Orobica are not easily replaceable. Please care for your jewellery to the best of your ability. Here are some general recommendations:
Best Practices
Avoid getting your jewellery wet if possible. Gold items can generally withstand moisture well, but all other materials we use do not.
Store your jewellery in a dry airtight pouch or container to help postpone tarnishing and oxidation.
Keep your jewellery separate from other jewellery or items that may scratch or damage it.
Be mindful of your jewellery when doing potentially damaging activities (e.g. wearing rings while rock climbing).
Cleaning & Repair Services
Every now and then jewellery may require professional cleaning or repair. Studio Orobica accepts repairs for most items even if they were not originally made here. Please contact me for a quote if you require these services.
Different Materials
Sterling Silver - It is normal for sterling silver jewellery to tarnish over time, especially if it is sitting in open air and not worn often. To clean, use a silver polishing cloth or email us for a professional cleaning & polishing quote. If your item has oxidized (blackened) parts, we recommend professional cleaning to ensure finishing treatments are maintained.
Gold - Gold is not quite as sensitive. To clean your gold jewellery at home, add a few drops of dish detergent to warm water and let the item soak. Then, scrub gently with a soft-bristled brush (a spare toothbrush is perfect). Do not do this if your item has sensitive gemstones or pearls.
Gemstones & Pearls - Every gem has its own unique properties and may require special care when cleaning. Pearls are especially sensitive and can be damaged even by exposure to perfume. Research the gemstone you have before cleaning at home, or reach out with questions.
Plated Items - Unfortunately plating of any kind does not last forever. Plating is a thin treatment that can scratch or wear over time. Be gentle with plated items and do not scrub the surface with anything. If you must spot clean the item, use a slightly damp soft cloth.
Acrylic - Acrylic items are fairly resilient. Clean acrylic parts with a slightly moist lint free cloth. Avoid submerging in water, since moisture may damage other metal components.
Wood & Mat Board - More than any other material, avoid getting paper-based jewellery items wet. Clean metal parts with a dry polishing cloth only and avoid wood/paper components.
Bone - Bone jewellery does not require regular cleaning, and it is normal that it may change colour slightly over time. If soiled, use a solution of water and gentle soap, wipe with a cloth, then let it air dry.
Mask Chains - Do not apply excessive pressure on clasp mechanism. Do not submerge Studio Orobica mask chains in water, since moisture may get stuck inside the clasps and damage the internal parts. If cleaning is absolutely necessary, spot clean gently with a slightly damp soft cloth. Some of our mask chains are plated items (see plated jewellery notes above).
